Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
Where are you located?
Mad Lad Visuals is based in Elk Grove, California and regularly serves the greater Sacramento region. Travel beyond 50 miles is absolutely possible and billed according to the travel policy outlined in the agreement.
How do I secure my date?
A signed agreement and a 50% non-refundable retainer are required to reserve your date. This retainer ensures the time is blocked exclusively for your project and that no other bookings are accepted during that window.
The remaining balance is due no later than the calendar day before the scheduled event.
What payment methods do you accept?
Payments can be made via electronic transfer, credit card, check, or cash. Credit card payments may include a processing fee. Returned checks are subject to a $100 fee.
How long does it take to receive photos?
Final edited photos are typically delivered within two weeks unless otherwise specified. Rush delivery may be available depending on scheduling.
Do you provide RAW images?
No. RAW files are unfinished working files from the editing process. Clients receive professionally edited final images that are ready to use.
Think of RAW files as ingredients and the final photos as the finished dish.
Do you offer revisions?
Editing style and final image selection are at the discretion of Mad Lad Visuals in order to maintain a consistent professional standard. Additional editing requests may be quoted as an add-on.
How long do you keep backups of the photos?
Backup files are maintained for six months after delivery. Clients are encouraged to download their gallery and maintain their own backups.
Do you travel?
Yes. Events located more than 50 miles from Elk Grove are billed at the current IRS mileage rate plus 50%. Lodging may apply for distant or multi-day projects.
Do you carry insurance?
Yes. Mad Lad Visuals carries business liability insurance and can provide proof of insurance if required by a venue or organization.
What happens if someone behaves inappropriately at an event?
Mad Lad Visuals maintains a professional and safe working environment. If harassment, unsafe conditions, or hostile behavior occurs, coverage may be terminated and no refund will be issued.
Working With Mad Lad Visuals
What types of clients do you typically work with?
Mad Lad Visuals primarily works with businesses, organizations, and professional teams that need reliable photography for marketing, websites, publications, and internal communication.
Common projects include corporate events, executive headshots, brand photography, and commercial imagery.
Why hire a professional photographer?
Professional photography ensures consistency, reliability, and image quality that reflects the professionalism of your organization.
Businesses often use these images for websites, marketing materials, press releases, and long-term brand assets.
Why is it called Mad Lad Visuals?
The name actually came from my son. When he was younger he used to call us “mad lads” whenever we were being a little adventurous or trying something new.
The name stuck. Mad Lad Visuals reflects that same spirit. We take the work seriously, but we also believe creativity should have some energy and curiosity behind it.
Commercial and Product Photography
Do you photograph products or brand imagery?
Yes. Mad Lad Visuals works with businesses that need professional photography for websites, marketing materials, advertising, and social media.
Do you help plan the shot list?
Yes. Most commercial projects begin with a conversation about how the images will be used. From there we determine the types of photos needed and plan the session accordingly.
Do you photograph at our business location?
Many commercial sessions take place on location so the images reflect the real environment where the business operates.
What licensing is included?
Clients receive a usage license for the purposes outlined in the agreement. Expanded licensing for advertising or large-scale publication can be arranged if needed.
Do you photograph food or restaurants?
Yes. Mad Lad Visuals works with restaurants and hospitality businesses that need professional photography for menus, websites, marketing, and social media.
Event Photography
How much should I budget for event coverage?
Most corporate clients invest between $1,400 and $2,400 for half-day to full-day coverage depending on the event size, schedule, and deliverables.
Shorter events may start at $750.
How many photos will we receive?
Deliverables vary by event size and coverage length, but most clients receive approximately 50–100 fully edited images for a standard half or full-day event.
What if the event runs late?
Coverage begins at the scheduled start time. If an event runs beyond the scheduled coverage window, additional coverage may be available and billed accordingly.
Will you personally photograph the event?
In most cases, yes. For larger events requiring additional coverage, Mad Lad Visuals may assign trusted photographers who work within the brand’s standards and style.
Headshots and Team Photography
Do you photograph individuals or entire teams?
Both. Headshot sessions can be scheduled for individuals, small teams, or larger organizations.
Can you photograph headshots at our office?
Yes. Many businesses prefer on-location headshots so employees can be photographed efficiently during the workday.
Do you help with posing?
Absolutely. Most people are not used to being in front of a camera, which is completely normal. I guide clients through simple posing and expression so they look confident and natural.
What should we wear for headshots?
Solid colors, well-fitted clothing, and outfits that match your organization’s professional tone tend to photograph best.
